Creative futures 1st lecture

 1st Lecture

The first lecture of the creative futures week was infact an emergency speaker. His lecture talked about how buisness and creative industries are closer linked than they first appear. As he was provided to speak in such sort notice i felt it was actually very informative and interesting. Some of the information did start very genreal, trying to appeal to all the different classes within the creative sector, and for it to not sound to specific to one course was a good achievement.

His began with a summary of the creative futures week and the first hand industrial knowledge we would recieve as well as important facts known only by those within the industry. He also pointed out the fact 94% who left uni went into employment after 6 moths, and that creative futures would beable offer this chance. His promotion for the idea of the Creative Futures was well structered and polished especially for a sort notice lecture. He finishing his sumary by saying how it would raise our level of enterprenurship, through insight into the creative industry, and the oppourtunity of meeting people within the creative industry raising our chances for employment.

Shakespere best buisnessmen in britain?

The second part of his lecture took a suprising turn as it began to turn into a history lesson on willaim shakespere. Throughout this part of the lecture the fact William Shakespere was a business man and not just a creative writer was used as an important example into the importance of the two working together. another primary fact was when shakespere and himself reached difficulties as he put it when " you hit the crisis were u think you cant go on and it has the potential to be your best moment".

Reviews

I thoroughly enjoyed both his introduction to the week ahead and his intriguing comparison to Shakespere. his lecture sympathised with students, understanding the struggle for work and that any competitive edge may get you a job. The buisness decisions that he brought he discussed made by willaim shakespere on the surface seem like a good history lesson, but were actually a motivational speech using these facts as an example. Although I can say I learnt some of the history of shakespere, it has also provided motivational and insightful information on the buisness world and that the creative industry have to work in and understand it in order to be successful.

How has it changed my views

The Lecture has made me realise that all sources whether historical or creative can provide relevant motivation and information. It has also provided much emphasis on understanding not only the creative side of work but the business side aswell,  it is important to not forget the two are intertwined.

Research

For my intitial research i thought i would research into Creative Futures. I found many other schemes and activity set ups with similar means all with a similar name across the world. But i managed to find the glyndwr specific information on what the Creative Futures week hopes to means to achieve.
