Fish and Chips

The second part of the lecture by Andy Cheatem took a completely different look at the 'untold story of cheaten bell', which worked well after seeing all of his new work and getting a feeling for what he is like. It began with a comparison of the droght of jobs now being similar to that of the 80's when he started. For him it began apparently when he was made redundent for the third time, with no reputation no internet and no means of infiltrating creative industry. At this moment I thought back to the very first lecture 'when it looks like you cant keep going you push through' and its exactly what he did, he met 3 guys in a simlar situation and started to buy themselves a reputation. They began to advertise for his own parents 'barnicles fish and chipstore'.

With this campaign they managed to win roses gold best campaign and best direct response ad
they had managed to qaulify into this due to advertising on buses and advertisements for a store that the competition didnt know his family owned. Although alot of people disliked that they won and and for a small brand winning prizes created the nickname 'chip shop ad'. One year later the loophole was closed so that they could not enter anymore, and 20 on they have created a site that has made the chipshop awards global 'creativity with no limits'. Is he proud? both yes and no, for most noted for manipulating awards no, but he also has made something that has given many people in design agreat opportunity.

The final part consisted of differences and tips, such as the new digital world marketing is more expensive and there is programs that take months to use. Yet there similarities in that econmy was similar, people still love great ideas, but the oppourtunities now are phenominal. On entering awards he advised that you send in your best, as only the best work wins, and to spend time winning one rather than sending weaker ideas to all competitions. Dont get into plagerism ,director will have seen it if you have spotted it so will the director.

Review

This part of the lecture cmpred to the first was a mush earlier history of his career starting from leaving university in a work drought very similar to my own situation. Parts of this lecture although insightlful for buisness and creative knowledge were actually more of a motivational lecture than anything due to his tough working experience that totally turned around for him. i could have imagined both of the combined lectures featuring in the large slot at the beginnig of the week and collectively it was possibly my favourite lecture.
