Copyrighting

Although this lecture was named Copyrighting, it actually had fairly little to do with it. There wasn't much I found relevant to myself or sadly of any interest. I could not relate my work to this lecture. The original purpose of  learning copyright facts was condensed into a tiny part of the lecture, with the rest consisting of examples of his work. The one part of the lecture I did find interesting was his product design. seeing the design process for the packages he designed was interesting but this was only a short part of the lecture.

Review

I felt it was inappropriately named, although it was slightly insightful into the work of a graphic designer. I took away no useful information on copyrighting. I did, however, learn small parts of packaging and branding ideas, but this is not what I intend to do with my creative career.

My own research

As a result of this, I have done some research into copyrighting in order to have some understanding of it. I hope next year there is another lecture that can help me further understand copyright law. During my own research, I found a site fitting the specific needs for copyrighting within art. The DACS is designed specifically for the purpose of helping those struggling with copyright in art.

http://www.dacs.org.uk/

The website has a copyrighting section which has a huge list of factsheets that cover all different styles from cartoons to textile and fabrics, photographs, collages and so much more information. This is clearly listed to give creative people a chance when it comes to understanding copyrighting.

With a bit of research, it was suprisingly easy to get an abundance of information on copyrighting. Hopefully the DACS may actually have a lecture some day and I hope that some representive of it is contacted as it would be of much use to students across all the creative industries.
